COVID-19 & Your Wedding

Filed in: Wedding Advice

Hey Boss Bride, Are you in a panic right now because COVID-19 has completely turned your wedding planning experience upside down? In the words of Bob Marley, “Don’t worry, about a thing, because every little thing is gonna be alright”. I’m here to help you handle this situation like the BOSS that you are so you can focus on staying safe, spending time with family and finding new things you love during the quarantine.

The first step and best advice I can give if your wedding date is impacted by the COVID-19 virus is to remain calm. I know emotions may be high because of the time, energy and money you’ve invested and the wedding experience you were looking forward to having – but do not make any decisions while you are emotional. Cry, scream, yell -get those emotions out. Once you have them out then you can make sound decisions about your next steps.

Next, do not cancel. I say again- do not cancel! Of the 3 options you have: to go through with it anyway (not changing the date), postponing the wedding, and canceling the wedding – the most fiscal impact you will see is from a cancellation. This means that any funds you have invested maybe a total loss. Some vendors may be empathetic to the situation and flexible with their contracts to offer a refund in some capacity, but other vendors will be firm on policies that funds are forfeited once tendered. Events can always be rescheduled. So postpone, don’t cancel your plans- your dream day can STILL be a reality.

After you establish a new postponed date – get the word out! Use as many avenues as possible to let your family and friends know that we are STILL on! Call, text, email, update your wedding website and send out a ‘Save the Date- the Remix!’ Card to let everyone know the new date once you have one established.

Finally, protect your new date. If you have not invested in a wedding planner and wedding insurance – Please do so RIGHT NOW. As a certified wedding planner, I’m here to help you navigate these waters to keep you calm and thinking clearly. Wedding insurance will minimize the financial impact of any last-minute, unforeseeable circumstances that can impact your wedding.

Are you in need of help with your wedding plans in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, I’d love to hear about your concerns and how I can help?

I’m hosting a webinar on Wednesday, April 15th @ 6PM just for you. Register here to join me.
