With all of the events I've had the pleasure of being a part of for over a decade...I have so many experiences to share with you! While here, you may find inspiration for your wedding day, corporate function or the things I like to get into when I'm not planning like a BOSS!
So, you’ve decided to launch a business, but there’s one catch—you’re still holding down a day job. First of all, kudos to you for pursuing your entrepreneurial dreams! But let’s be real: balancing a full-time job, a budding side hustle, and a personal life isn’t easy. It requires some serious time management, prioritization, and a dash of discipline. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
Here are three steps to help you stay organized as you grow your side business while keeping your day job—and your sanity—intact.
Step 1: Look at Your Calendar Like a Boss
When you’re working full-time and starting a side hustle, your calendar is about to become your best friend. Get serious about your time management. Sit down and decide how you will divide your time between your job, your business, and your personal life. The key is consistency and planning ahead.
– Identify Your Side Hustle Days: Pick a consistent day each week dedicated to working on your business. Once you identify that day, time block 2-3 hours and mark it as non-negotiable. This is your uninterrupted side hustle time, and sticking to it will help you chip away at your to-do list consistently.
– Create a Task List: Have a running list of business tasks you need to accomplish. From setting up your website to marketing strategies, track everything based on priority. You can reference my earlier post on starting a business to make sure you’re on the right path. During your time blocks, focus on ticking off items on your list one at a time.
Pro Tip: Consistency is key here! Use tools like Google Calendar, Trello, or Asana to manage your schedule and tasks, so you know exactly what you need to work on each week.

Step 2: Communicate With Clients—Set Boundaries and Expectations
As your side business grows and you start getting clients, communication is everything. One of the biggest challenges with balancing a day job and side hustle is ensuring your clients feel taken care of without compromising your other responsibilities.
– Set Clear Communication Windows: During your onboarding process, let your clients know exactly what days and times you’re available for them. For example, if your client communication time is Friday afternoons from 3-5 PM, they’ll know to expect replies or meetings during this window. This way, even if they email you on a Wednesday, they’ll understand that you’ll respond within your set time frame.
– Include it in Your Contracts or Agreements: Make your availability part of your contracts or client agreements. Transparency builds trust, and it sets clear boundaries that allow you to stay focused during your day job without constantly checking your phone or email.
Pro Tip: Use tools like an auto-responder or calendar scheduling tool (e.g., Calendly) that automatically informs clients of your availability. This way, they always know when to expect a response or meeting.

Step 3: Segment Time to Work ON Your Business, Not Just IN Your Business
As your side hustle starts to flourish and you begin working with more clients, don’t forget that it’s equally important to work *on* your business as it is to work *in* your business. This means setting time aside for those important maintenance tasks that keep your business running smoothly.
– Separate Operations from Maintenance: When you start taking on clients, a lot of your blocked time will be devoted to client work. However, you still need to maintain your business’s infrastructure—whether that’s updating your website, improving your service offerings, creating marketing content, or managing your social media presence.
– Establish Recurring Time Slots: Identify a regular time slot (maybe every other Saturday morning or a couple of hours on Sunday evenings) dedicated to business maintenance. This way, you can keep your brand and processes sharp without feeling overwhelmed or letting these important tasks fall through the cracks.
Pro Tip: Schedule a quarterly or monthly “CEO Day” where you evaluate your business’s performance, plan for upcoming projects, and make necessary adjustments. Treat it like a business review meeting, and set goals for the next month or quarter.
